Paper Scrapbooking Creativity
6 September 2006Paper scrapbooking uses photos, construction paper, and other supplies to create decorative displays, or scrapbooks. In earlier decades, scrapbooks were very straightforward and contained pictures that were mounted on grey pages which appeared very uncreative.
The paper used for scrapbooks are acid and lignin free. This means this they can accept writing using pens, chalk, pastel and crayon. This is also used for other things such as the background for picture framing.
Scrapbook paper is not only available in plain prints. There are also some designs available that have floral and striped prints. There are also seasonal designs that are launched in the summer or in the winter which may depict special events in a given year.
The scrapbook can be done in different sizes which has also prompted manufacturers to also have this available in a variety of sizes and shapes. You can cut them to fit in saving time to be able to do other things.
The paper used doesn’t always have to serve as a background to feature those special moments. You can also print some great layouts obtained from the internet. After finding the right layout you’ll scan a picture which will be inserted on it. When this has been completed, this can also be added to the scrapbook.
One of the most fun aspects of paper scrapbooking is the ability to add text in boxes and/or thought bubbles to the page, either of which can be created individually, or they can be purchased ready to be written in. Adding captions to pictures is always fun, but sometimes you don’t even need a picture; try adding a favorite saying or poem to the page? You can even create a border around a picture or the entire page, with words, texts, poetry, etc.
The paper used plays a big role in making the scrapbook complete. You should first think of what is needed then buy them either from the bookstore or off the web. After a few weeks, the final design can be shown to the public where friends and family will praise you for a job well done.
Making Baby Scrapbooking Pages
23 August 2006 Scrapbooking pages for a baby is one of the most popular hobbies going today. We all take tons of pictures of out baby. Now it’s just a matter finding stuff to do with all the photos. These 7 quick and easy steps can have you on your way to making a great baby scrapbooking pages that you will be proud of:
1. Get Some Tips From a Scrapbooking Pages Class
If you are a rookie in the scrapbooking world, you may find it easier to register for a baby scrapbooking class in your area. Specialty stores like Archivers have free classes as well as ones for a fee. Your local park district may also offer a short course on the fundamentals of baby scrapbooking.
2. Start Collecting the Supplies Before the Baby is Due
If you find out the sex of the baby before hand, you can buy color coordinated paper, stickers or ribbon months before the baby is due. Otherwise, you could still opt for mostly neutral greens and yellows with unisex motifs like rubber duckies or balloons.
3. Keep Your Photos Organized From the Start
Whether you get your roll of film developed, or order digital prints, choose your favorite poses as the envelopes come in because if you begin to procrastinate, the piles will just get bigger and bigger.
4. Keep a Journal
If there is something you want to jot down at any time of the day, just make a note in your journal. Write down the day your little bundle of joy first smiled at you, her first tooth and her first words. Then all you’ll need to do is cut and paste with the corresponding photos.
5. Use Ready-Made Kits if it Makes Sense
Buy a ready-made scrapbooking kit or mini scrapbooking packages with a baby theme to make your life easier. You will not need to hunt for the perfect embellishment as you will have a variety to choose from in the package already.
6. Schedule Yourself Time
Whether you classify baby scrapbooking as your personal ‘me time’ or as an investment in preserving your family memories, do not feel guilty about it. You would probably be better off napping while the baby sleeps, but if he’s happy in his swing or bouncer, go for it and create a page or two.
7. Put the Scrapbook Together
You have the supplies, the pictures, the journaling, the kit and the time. Now experiment with whatever look you may want for your page. Remember, the cutting, pasting and layout does not have to be perfect – because your memories are.
Your Life Deserves Catalog Scrapbooking
12 August 2006Scrapbooking is a means of creating a book of memories. Scrapbooking can even be kept on a computer should you choose not to physically create it by hand; however, handwriting is more personal and in due course it will hold more sentimental value.
Catalog scrapbooking will keep all dates together in sequence, which will be nice to follow especially if you are recording a baby’s life from birth.
There are several items that you need to purchase in order to start with catalog scrapbooking. They are listed below:
1. Scrapook Album
The scrapbook album pages should be acid-free, PVC-free (polyvinyl chloride-free) and photo-safe. There are several types of albums.
The first one is the binder-type album which is a three-ring binder similar to a generic three-ring school binder, this type of album is expandable, so it will be easier to add more scrapbook pages as they are created. It is also convenient because pages can be moved without damaging the entire album or scrapbook page.
The second type is the post-bound album. A post-bound album has sheet protectors which you can take apart because they are bound by metal tubes.
The third type is the strap-hinge album. This type is also expandable but it only goes to certain extent. The album has plastic pockets to protect the pages, and is bound by wire loops.
2. Mounting Pages
Mounting pages are available in various designs and colors. Again, since mounting pages serve as a photograph’s support, it is important to make sure that they are acid-free, PVC-safe and photo-safe. Mounting pages usually come in two sizes, 8 1/2 X 11 and 12 X 12.
3. Mounting Supplies
You can use glue, phototape, or mounting corners to post photos. They need to be labelled “photo-safe” or “archival” so they won’t damage photos.
To mount newspaper clippings or brochures, you need to use an Archival or deacidification spray first prior to mounting to prevent the paper from yellowing.
4. Cutting Tools
Scissors are sold in many arts and craft stores, but there are special scrapbooking scissors you can purchase. Popular cutting tools used in scrapbooking are circle and oval cutters, paper trimmers to trim photos or to cut small decorations, and scrapbooking punches, available in various designs.
Other than the materials and tools mentioned, you can use other materials like stickers, cloth, dried flowers, leaves, twigs, or even rocks to create a unique scrapbook.
Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to record occasions of any sort anytime from birthdays, to graduation, to marriages and anniversaries or anything else happeing in one’s life worth remembering and recording. Catalog scrapbooking can help you recollect and put together your life as a book.
Disney Scrapbooking
8 August 2006One popular and obvious way of integrating a Disney theme into scrapbooks is by making albums of Disney vacations. People take tons of photos when they go. Most of the pictures developed from the films however are just stored in boxes and left to deteriorate, squandering very memorable moments. These cherished pictures can be made much more interesting by making a Disney themed scrapbook
Making Disney themed scrapbooks is easy. Just like any scrapbooking project, you need to make backgrounds first, lay out pictures, add interesting accents, and write text. To design backgrounds, you may use stationeries with Disney designs. You can find these in Disney stores and craft stores. For accents you can use cutouts from Disneyland maps and brochures.
For those in a hurry to make their Disney scrapbooks, there are scrapbook making kits with Disney themes widely available in craft stores, book stores, and even online. Some websites are even dedicated to Disney scrapbooking itself.
Disney has lent their trademark to an entire line of accessories, including papers, stickers, accessories – all of which can be found online, if not locally in arts and crafts stores. Many of the official Disney kits can be extremely expensive, and quite honestly, don’t need to be; depending on your project, it might be more cost effective to purchase the items individually. It is also possible to create successful Disney scrapbooking pages without buying into Disney corporate advertising.
Everyone knows that if you went to Disneyland or Disney World, your scrapbook will include Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and all their little cartoon friends. But maybe you should try using other characters like Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio, or other Disney pals.
Disney has always been a fun part of childhood. With Disney scrapbooking, one can keep those fun memories with Disney forever.
